There are several ways to configure email settings in ServeWire VES. ServeWire is not an email server in itself, so you need to route outgoing emails through an email sender. When Ministry Vitals configures the site for you, we set it up through Sendgrid. This is to ensure that when you 'test the test', you can confirm that you are receiving emails as intended. However, this does not 100% ensure emails will reach your congregants. These emails might end up in their spam box, or (depending on their email provider platform) be blocked from their inbox entirely.
For this reason we provide several options for you to send your emails.
How To Configure Email Settings In ServeWire VES
Sendgrid
Sendgrid is an industry leader in sending transactional and marketing emails. We provide a valid API key as part of our service, so you incur no additional charges for Sendgrid.
Mandrill
Mandrill is the transactional email service offered by Mailchimp. It is owned by Mailchimp and can be accessed through your Mailchimp account (if you use Mailchimp for your communication and marketing emails) Note you must enable the Mailchimp Transactional Email Plan in order to use this service.
SMTP
You can route ServeWire emails through your own server by configuring the SMTP details.
The image above is an example of configuring SMTP for a Google Gsuite account. Each server is configured differently so check with your hosting company to obtain the information needed to complete the section shown below. The following are required fields to complete in order to configure email settings in ServeWire VES.
Host: The URL of your SMTP server. Any changes to this setting will require the Looker admin to also change the SMTP server password.
User Name: The email address needed to gain access to your SMTP server. Password: The password associated with that email address - needed to gain access to your SMTP server.
Port: The port to use for your SMTP server.
TLS/SSL: If your SMTP server uses the TLS or SSL protocols for more secure email, select this option.
Note: Anytime you wish to change the email settings, you must always check the radio box to the right of the options as shown above.
Here are some examples for different email servers settings for Zoho, Office 365, and Gmail.
